The Pamporovo ski resort is situated 1650 m above sea level, at the foot of Snejanka peak (1926 m), in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. It is located 260 km from the capital Sofia and 85 km south of the city of Plovdiv.
Pamporovo is the sunniest winter resort in Bulgaria. The winter is soft, but with a lot of snow. There is snow 150-200 days per year and the number of sunny days during the season from December to May comes up to 120. The climate is Mild Mountain, moderate with strong influence from the Mediterranean.
Pamporovo is a ski-centre for all categories of skiers; it has excellent ski runs including a racing ski run for giant slalom, as well as a first class built-up ski lift system. There is a ski-school of international category too, with more than 100 highly qualified instructors. The ski tracks of Pamporovo have all degrees of difficulty. Most of the tracks start from the very peak. There are 17.5 km alpine tracks and 34 km long-distance running tracks.
Pamporovo also offers scores of scenic routes for seeing the Rhodope Mountains on foot, as well as opportunities to visit some interesting tourist attractions. |
